Converted 1948 8N to 12V last spring.
Field coils in starter & generator are 12volt.
Starter solenoid is 12volt.
Voltage Regulator is 12volt.
Squarecan Frontmount ignition coil is 12volt.
Installed 12v battery for negative ground.
Polarized VReg/Genny per VReg instructions.
Tractor starts and runs fine.

I've been perusing the "Positive Ground Advantage?", and subsequent threads, MG Link, posted by VTXscooter on Feb 15, 2005

So now I want to convert back to positive ground and enhance my sparkies.
Does anyone know if the 12v squarecan frontmount ignition coils are hardwired for "positive ground"?

The firewood for next year is all cut and soon it'll be time to haul it home.
Temp was up to 20 today.

Jaques

Jaques..... ....you say its running well right now? Then DONNNA MUCKA'ROUND. Iff'n it ain't broke, don't fixxitt.

The "advantage" of correct coil polarity vs battery polarity (while real) is largely more theoretical over longtime rather than practical over shorttime actual usage. New modern material sparkplugs are NOT very susceptable to sparkie-arc errosion as the old-timey sparkies.

But iff'n you really insist, go ahead and re-install your 12 volt battery for positive ground and re-polarize both yer squarecan voltage regulator and 3-wire 12 volt genny. (don't forget to reverse the ammeter wiring so it indicates (+) when engine is running fast enuff to charge the battery)..... .....respectfully, Dell
