I noticed that both figures for the internal resistance was roughly 1/6 of the input voltage. I'm just curious is there a formula or mathamatical stuff causing that or just chance

Average ignition system current draw is about 4 amps, to stay within what the breaker points can handle.

12 Volt coil resistance, plus the "1/2 Ohm trick resistor" give a resistance of about 3 Ohms, so (nominal) 12 volt supply voltage/3 Ohms = 4 Amps.

6 Volt coil resistance, plus the original ballast resistor = about 1.5 Ohms, so (nominal) 6 Volt supply voltage/1.5 Ohms also equals 4 Amps.

In both cases, the combined coil and resistor resistance results in about 4 Amps of igntion current at the particular operating voltage.
