12 Volt conversion resistor question

I just purchased a 12 volt conversion kit from this site along with an electronic ignition kit for my 1941 front mount distributor 9N. The question is do I have to use the "infamous ballest resistor" be able to drop down the volts to ensure it dosen't burn up my new 12 V coil or do the coils sold on this site come with an internal resistor. Also, anyone that can give me a simple electronic ignition installation class it sure would be appreciated. By the way, my current 6 volt system is wired as per the manuel.

thanks

Generally, if you get one of those tisco front mount 12v coils, you still have to run about a half ohm of extra resistance in line with it.

However, that's when it's on a points system. When you throw in the electronic ignition.. I think you need to ask those people.

Does your e-ignition kit still use the front mount resistor? or does it use a side mounted job? If side mounted.. and 12v.. it should be fine. there have been 'true' 12v side mount coils for a while now.

As for internal resistor.. That's pretty much a 'dated' term. I doubt you would find a modern ignition coil with a built in resistor.. but rather one that has the primary already wound to the correct resistance. You never know.. there may be a few special application coils floating around.. hard to say.
