I am still working on getting the charging system on my tractor to work. Took the alternator off to have it bench tested and found out it was bad, so I replaced it. I am attempting to trace all the wires to see what is what, but it is harder then you might think. The previous owner had wired in lights, a lighter, a horn and turn signals. In addition to that, there seem to be several wires that don't go to anything anymore. I want to get the charging problem taken care of before I try to remove anything. Now the question: It looks like one of the wires from the alternator is hooked up to the horn. I think I read in one of the past post something about a way to wire the alternator to the horn as a way to start the alternator charging. Is that correct and if it is, do you just have to press the horn button once or what? Is this a recommended way to have it wired, or is it better to use a diode? Thanks PS: I thought this was a one wire alternator, because there was only one wire hooked up to the alternator, with a second wire hanging loose in the harness, but when I removed the alternator, I discovered two wire hook-ups hiding at the top of alternator under the hood.
