Ok, Ok, so my "other tractor" is not an 8N

12 HP kohler engine

Having trouble with it cutting out after about 20 minutes of running. Find no spark- once it dies. After about 1 hr it will restart, havent got a wiring diag yet to see if an interlock switch is opening. What is the chance of a magneto that heats up & opens, therby losing spark

Yep. Got one that had exacaly that same problem. We replace the part from under the fly wheel with electronic part. small part, simple fix.

I will get the name and part number for you tomorrow.

Easy fix, easy wire!!

Bet it looks just like the picture I took today of mine. http://members.safepages.com/texhotair@surfbest.net/Ford/daboys.jpg

What model Deere? In general, a coil or module problem (if your's is electronic) is not uncommon.

I checked it out on jdparts.com, and it appears Deere part number M133019 (@$35.25) fits all the STX38's. It's a combination, coil and electronic ignition module all in one, and it fits under the cooling shroud, next to the flywheel.

They must fail now and then. Local dealer shows 6 in stock!

Under the flywheel is the atator for the alternator system.

BTW Lee, the only differance in the 12 hp and the 14 HP on that engine is the carb. Think it was like $35 when I needed a new carb to make mine a 14 hp.
