JPF..... .....yer the first person to post new 12 volt frontmount coil resistances with even enuff savvy to ask an intellegent question. 1.2 ohms is about normal 6 volt frontmount coil resistance. 1.2 ohm coil + 1.2 ohms ballast resistor uses up the full 6 battery volts so you read about 3 volts at the coil terminal. Simple series resistance. ok? If'n TISCO put a 12 volt sticker on their new coil, I'd sure be for painting 12 volts on the coil so you know 20 yrs from now after the sticker falls off. And if'n TISCO sez to use BOTH their supplied resistor and the "infamous ballast resistor", thats what I'd do until contraindicated with weak sparkies and slow/hard starting. But at least you have a "bench-mark" to start from. I'd also do a coil terminal voltage check after installation and see if'n the voltage makes sense. And NO, I don't know what voltage to expect per TISCO scheme. (probably 6-8 volts) And yes, I'd expect a real 12 volt roundcan coil to measure about 5 ohms, and a real 6 volt roundcan coil to measure about 2-1/2 ohms. I don't know what to expect from the 12 volt squarecan coil ennymores, but I think I would use it over the OEM 6 volt squarecan coil..... .Dell, a 12 volt advocate for the right reasons
