Thanks to all that replied to my recent post.
I did get the trumpet off, no problem. Grabbed the diffy and it did start to move, but my ma called, the honey-do's kicked in, and here it is monday morning (small grin). To fix the axel leak, I got a pair of sure seals. Archives say to check the bearings b/4 you packem full of grease, install sure seal. All I see is the side of the bearing. Without distroying everything, how would you go about this? So far, everything "looks" good but???? BTW...the only fire wrench I've got is propane. Thanks for your time.
Regards....don t. ....

One of the few drawbacks of the N's is that the outer wheel bearing was put on before the axle was attached to the hub. That means that in order to replace the bearing you have to destroy the collar and the old bearing. I'm still not sure how you're supposed to get the new one on (in other words, why can't you just remove the old one the same way the new one goes on?).

All I plan to do on mine is clean everything out as good as I can with solvents and pressure washing and then pack the grease in and install ye-olde sure seal. NOt much else you can do, right? Besides, the rear bearings don't spin fast enough to be catasrophically destructive if they went out. I'm leavin' mine in.

Those were my thoughts as well.
I was also thinking (oh god), since the seal leaked the bearings are being lubed, they're not loose, I've always kept fluid level full, all the other visable bearings in the rear looked real good. Roll the dice and pray. Thanks.....don t. .....
