The coil is gone on my 1952 8n. I was told by the dealer that nobody makes a 6v coil any more; the only ones available are 12v. Will this work as a bolt on, or do I need to do something different? It seems to me I will only get half as much spark.

I called a local auto parts house and asked for a 6v VW coil. When it became apparent that I did not in fact intend to use it on a VW, but an 8n instead, he asked why I was not asking for an OEM coil. I told him I was told by the local Ford dealer they were no longer available, he was quite surprised. Anyhow, tonight I'll be getting a real 6v coil and returning the 12v to the ignorant schmuks at the dealership.

Thanks to everyone who offered assistance to this newby. It's amazing how some forums are truely helpful, such as this one, and yet others snub you if you are not part of the established circle. I'm glad this one is the former, not the latter.

If your dealer is a "FORD" dealer, perhaps you should introduce him to the "KUBOTA" line. I'll try to call my ford dealer and get a part no. and get back to you. As the others said just keep looking they aren't all that hard to find. Good luck Ron

1952 8N uses a regular can shaped coil. If your dealer does not have one, which means he does not want to stock one, you can go to NAPA and get one. You can actually get one for an old VW that is made by Bosch which has a little more sparkies than the stock coil. But they are available. I think you can even buy them from this site.

6 volt coils are readily available from a variety of vendors. Check around the advertisements and links on the internet. There are several good ones who cannot be named here. Locally, Tractor Supply carries them as well.
