Never saw one run ccw before my 65. I thought all distribs ran cw. I could not figure out why my engine would not start. Wanted to, but would just hit and miss. Not enough to keep her running. I finally pulled the cap and cranked it. Turned backward of what I was expecting. Switched two and three spark plug wires and she fired right up.

If you look at the points, they seem to be installed backward. The force of the contact with the lobes pushes against the pivot of the points instead of pulling against it. I cannot say it is wrong as it has apparently worked since 1959.

Just my $0,000,000.02 worth,

Aaron

Ya all the old posts from the archives say the 65 dist. turns ccw. Reason I'm asking is I bought an electronic Ignition kit from here that says it's for a 65 but after I bought it and found out it doesn't work they said only for 65"s that turn clockwise. Well I can't find anyone that says they turn clockwise. Point being, if they don't turn cw they need to change their add. If someone has one that does then there OK. Plus I have a slightley used on they can have for half price. lol

Hi Tom, seems that for the G176 continental engine, the original distributor was a Delco - Remy, spec gives rotation as "Clockwise - viewing drive end" which would be ccw from top end. Regards, Chas.
