I have finished all the mechanical rebuild on my 150 with Z145 Continental engine. It left the garage under it’s own power. I decided it was time to check the total advance curve of the distributor. Well there was a big problem, the timing was retarding past the TDC mark on the flywheel when I increased the RPM. You say, it can’t happen, well it was.

Just a warning to anyone that rebuilds their own distributor: Make sure that you get the point cam plate in the correct hole of the distributor shaft plate. It can go in two ways as I had done, it was wrong. I had the advance weights in backwards and upside down.

After repeating the assembly all was fine, with a total of around 25 degrees advance at PTO speed.
