Just picked up an MF 40 diesel. I got it for $2500 which with a bucket seems like a pretty good price. It has been used pretty hard, and i believe i will be rebuilding the engine real quick, it smokes pretty bad, whiteish blue. I will due a compression check and have my fingers crossed that the injectors are bad, however it would seem that bad injectors would be black smoke, so i will try a rebuild. Anyhow, the reason i am writing is that mine seems to be a bit of a misfit. I thought they all came with either the instant reverse or the manual shuttle, mine has a normal 6 f 2 r tranny like the 135, seems solid but i wish it were the manual shuttle. The hole is there on the dash, but no lever.

What do you all think? Also what is a good place to buy rebuild kits and parts for massey's? Preferably online.

I have seen many MF30. They all had two throttle peddles on the right, forward and reverse. Always thought the 40 was the same, only bigger. They call this type of trans "Instant Reverse"

Good luck with your new 40. I paid 1800 for the loader for mine, and 3000 for the tractor. thought I got a good deal.

The manual shuttle shouldn't be hard to install, you will need the shift lever the shuttle arm and some connecting parts. email me offline and I can get the list to you. (my parts manual is back at the farm right now.)
