After I posted the message below, I went back out and tried again and it took off....it ran a little rough for about 5 seconds and then smoothed out.
To answer some questions....no, it wasn't running before I changed the filters.
I bought the tractor a couple weeks ago.
A basket case from an estate.
Almost all the wiring is unhooked, cut or missing and I am waiting on manuals to come, so I have no idea what a thermo-start is. I'm assuming it is something that helps in starting like glow plugs.
I shut it off several times and restarted it.At least now, I know it runs.
In a couple weeks I'm having back surgery and I'll have plenty of time to study manuals when they get here.
I just wanted to see if I could make her run before I'm laid up for the winter.

Thanks for your help...I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions.

Glad you got it going. Thermo-start is similar to glow plugs but is an electric heating element that burns diesel in the intake manifold. It is usually turned on by turning the key backwards. Look on the ignition switch or for a plate explaining how to use it. Dave
