I have had the 72 MF 165 diesel for 5 years and never drained the primary fuel filter. The manual says inspect for water but what would water look like? How much do you drain, how often and do you have to air bleed afterward? It runs fine except its hard to start under 50 degrees. I do keep the tank full to minimize condensation. Thanks for any help.

5 years without fuel filter change = asking for your injection pump to fail on you at a cost of about $700. Better get MF Manuals if you don't have them. Change filter(s) and bleed system. Routine maintenance pays off in the long run. You can change a lot of filters cheaper that one pump rebuild. Tom

Water should be in the glass bowl under the first CAV filter and you bleed by loosening the tap on the bottom. The other place to look is the glass bowl on the lift pump. If you replace the CAV filters you need to rebleed the fuel system.

You will see the water under the fuel. If you haven't changed the filters in 5 years, they are over due. Big Dean has a picture how to bleed the system. Dave
