Disc Harrow Adjustment

Just bought a used 6 ft. disc harrow yesterday to pull behind my 245. Got pretty lucky as it only needed one bearing replaced along with a lift arm pin. The rest of the harrow appears to be in super shape. My problem is figuring out the disc angle adjustment...the rear discs are currently set at the most extreme angle they can be set at.
I dropped it in the ground today and it didn't seem to do much at all. Mostly it just walked above the ground and plowed in a little bit of grass.
I have a field that was worked with a 2 bottom plow last year, and am just wanting to smooth things out a bit. Any recommendations regarding the settings of the new harrow to accomplish the goal? Confused as to the correct conbination of front and rear disc angle settings. Thanks, Ron

hehe. You have hit the major problem with smal discs. Once you finally get the surface "crust" broke, they normally do ok. You will probably have to add weight to the top of the disc. If you have sandy soil, you probably will not have much trouble, but if you have gumbo like we do in southeast Texas, you will be a while. Try adjusting the gangs to a lesser angle, until you get the crust broke. Good luck!
