I was wondering on the Differential Lock Rear End are the Differentials the same? Looking at some Trumpits I see the opening for the unit. I know there is a lever that shoves a set of Dogs into the 3rd member to lock the axle and there is a oppisite set of dogs on the Differential. Do you have to change out the Differential to install the lock out or just the lever, shaft, fork and dog clutch?? I hope I said that right. Other words are the Differentials the same with out the Lock assembley? Thanks, Mark H.

Hi Mark You know I have been retired for over 10 years and have not been around those old tractors till I opened my shop back up a couple of months ago. The best I remember the MF135 Orchard only used the rear end with the square axle housing it would be basically the same as the MF40 MF30 MF165 MF175 with the square axle There was different ratio ring gear and pinion for the high clearance tractors and the low profile tractors. The ring gear carriers are the same for tractors with differential lock and tractors without it except for the dog clutch and right bearing. I have put the Diff lock stuff on tractors that did not have it but you have to change a lot of things. It has been so long ago I don't remember exactly what all was involved.

Thanks that makes sense to me. Casting would be the same and they just bolt the extra parts on so it works. The right bearing plate is different then the left because the fork to engauge the dogs is in it. You could remove the fork and dogs and levers and it would work like a regular rear end. Mark H.
