In my MF-135 gearbox, there is a ball worm on the steering shaft that has a rack that runs the lower cross shaft. The upper cross shaft runs the other drag link. All are tapered with an end positioning bolt to set the mesh and to minimize the backlash. The power steering cylinder then runs a rack on top the upper cross shaft so it need more gear teeth for power steering than without power steering and the lower shaft needs teeth on the side and the top for all positions. I believe the gearbox on your MF-35 is very similar but I don't have parts information nor specific adjustment instructions.

Gears for left and right seem fine. But in reply to Gerald J, 04-19-2005 10:24:35
I can"t seem to get the steering arm off the left side. I tried banging with 2 hammers. I guess I could pick up a puller. There was alot of water in the box when I opened the covers. Where should I look next. On my 35 you can get the right side off to check the gear but on the left side one bolt is blocked by the battery tray. So I took off the tank, tray and all the wires. No that hard figured I"ll learn something. Now I guess I need to pull the wheel

For anyone still following I only had one bearing in reply to mtnbikerman, 04-20-2005 04:51:32
steering shaft and it was toasted and the bottom bearing at the bottom of the shaft was toast also. No grease left at all. Gears are good but it was a good thing I took it apart cause the gear box was nothing but water and a little bit of oil.
