HAS ANYONE USED ONE OF THE DROP IN DISTRIBUTORS ON A TO-20, DOES IT WORK AS GOOD AS THE AD STATES IT DOES? ALSO, THIS IS A WORKING TRACTOR, IS THE 12 VOLT UPGRADE A GOOD IDEA?

My tractor had been converted to a 12 V system when I got. I recently had my distributor rebuilt and I added a Pertronix Electronic Ignition, replacing the points. I don't regret it. Faster starts and smoother idling. Gotta have a 12 V negative ground system for this unit. I believe Genesee makes a 6 V positive ground unit, however. Generally speking 12 V system parts are easier to find now adays and are a bit cheaper. 12 V is easier onthe old six volt starter than 6 Volts;less starting current reults in less internal heat generation.

Hi Glenn. If everything is in good shape, a 6 volt system should be able to start even at 0 degrees. But if your 6 volt gennie pooped out, and you couldn"t find repair parts, then a 12 conversion could be appropriate. Otherwise, I wouldn"t bother.

THANKS RANDY, THAT IS ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS I AM LOOKING AT UPGRADING, I CAN FIND PARTS BUT NOT AS CHEAP OR CLOSE AS 12 VOLT.
THANKS AGAIN...GLENN

That would be a reason for me to do it. Electronic ignition is always nice.

Glenn;

Converted an M Farmall to 12 volt and dropped in the Pertronix kit.No problem. The TO-30 was next on the list but decided to sell out and move south.
