Draining Planitaries

Last night the next project in my total maintenance of the MF65 was to change the oil in the planitaries.

I have an older model without a drain plug. I used a bulb syphon to draw the oil out. Boy was it thick. I got a drizzle of oil flowing and left it to drain over night.

My question, what it the best way to get all the old oil out? Can it be done? I would like to "Wash" the cavity with diesel but I am concerned that I would not be able to drain that out and it would contaminate my new oil.

Not knowing the amount of oil left in the planitary how much do you put in... i.e until it just comes out of the fill plug?

Your thoughts are welcome.
Jeff.

Do all of the MF65s have planetaries? I assume these are on the end of the rear axle housings...right? Tell me how you change it(the oil), or is it self-explanatory. Probably should change mine! What kind of lube did you put back in?

Thanks

On y MF65 I set up a siphon and let it drain overnight. I didn't flush it out I just put clean lube in. Fill it to the drain hole. I had checked with Big Dean on the procedure as when I opened up one of the drain plugs fluid acutally came pouring out. Big Dean said it was probably overfilled.

I just changed mine ---The book calls for one quart for each planetary--and that's what it took after draining the old oil. Good Luck with yours. J. Kirsch NY
