Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if it is advisable, or not, to use a gasket sealer on a head gasket?

Thanks!

I just lightly oil the deck. That holds the gasket if you're careful.

I know this goes against commonsense but I/we use copper coat gasket sealant on head gaskets on
gas powered engines in the truck fleet that I work for. Esp. if the unit has a lot of miles/hours on it. Also have had good results with it on tractors with rough head/block surfaces.
My 2 cents...

The old guru that show me the ropes still say's no sealer the dowell pins will keep gasket in place if no pins. Then cut heads of of long bolts then grind them to point . This will keep gasket in place,as long as you prepare surfaces correctly and retourqe the head should not have any problems

I use a spray on type gasket on head gaskets. Its pink in color and it leaves a thin sticky covering on the gasket. I spray it on both sides. I have used it on several tractors and never had a problem. Does it hurt not to have it? Probably not,but I feel better when I do.
