I was reading the posts below about the Diff. lock and I have a question. I have a 150 and 165 and both have a problem with the shafts. I have jacked the right side of the tractor up and soaked the shaft with PB Blaster but they are still way too tight. I can step on the lock pedal and it engages. I have to pull up on the petal or pry up on the petal with a 2x4 to get it to disengage. Is there an easy fix?

I had a chance to check the locking pedal tonight and found that it is still securely positioned on the shaft and their does seem to be a light tension on the pedal, like it is still attached to something in there. If I pull the pedal up it stays in the up position it just doesn't unlock the wheels. So I'm still stumped. Thanks to all who had replied to this thread, and A Happy New Year to All

Don is it the shaft going into shift fork where it goes through the case binding up or is it the pedal binding on the shaft it rotates on. I have seen them bind in both places

Thanks for the reply Big Dean, I would have answered earlier but I took my mule on a 15 mile ride today. Ouch!! The pedal is tight on the shaft-I have tightened it. I believe there is rust between the shaft and the housing. It can be moved but is very stiff. I just wondered if there was an easy fix. Thanks for your time!

...backing up about 10-15 feet and pull up while you do it, shouldn't have to pry it up. Maybe you need to use it more, ours work better when they are used a few times during the day.

In my case the the pedal moves free, there is no resistance on it at all but it still won't unlock.

On my 165 it never unlocks after it is released until I brake left or right. It has always worked that way, most of the time it's no problem but once in a while I don't want to brake for one reason or another (row-crops). Never been serious enough of a problem do anything about it. I am curious though.

Dennis if your shaft that goes in through the case to the shift fork is free & it is still lock in then you either have the roll pin broke or fell out that holds the fork to the shaft or you have a broken shift fork either one you should repair it before something goes through the ring gear & pinion & really does some damage.

My lock engages and disengages as it should. There is just way too much resistance where the shaft goes into the housing.
