Hi,

Last spring I bought a 1965 4020 gas tractor. I"ve been using it quite a bit this winter to move snow. The engine just doesn"t sound the same even when it warms up. I noticed the heat valve block was set to Cold. I know the manual says it supposed to be set to cold if the temp is over 90. Fortunately I was able to get the block off without twisting off a stud. The next snow is tomorrow, so I"ll find out then if it has made any change.

So here is the question, has there been a change in conventional wisdom on when to run hot or cold? Would the changes in gasoline affect when to set the valve to cold? Any suggestions or just follow the manual?

Thanks,
Mark J.

I have had the exact opposite experience of the other fellow. With ours we found that changing it over to the hot setting in cold weather makes it run a whole lot better. You will soon find out how your tractor runs for you.

I've owned my 4020 Gas for over 30 years, and i used mine allot in winter. I always have the heat valve block set on COLD and it runs good even when it's very cold.
