I took the floor board up on my 4020 the other day and the spring for the clutch pedal came loose from the top of the spring. The bottom is still connected to the foot pedal itself. After looking around it looks like the prior owner had taken a piece of wire and made a loop around the front left bolt spacer that holds down the floor board. He had attached the top of the spring to this loop of wire which I guess is ok. My question is where should the top of the spring connect?

Also, how hard is it to adjust the clutch pedal I have about 2-3" of free play at the top. My understanding is that the free play should be 1 and a half inches.

thanks

Two holes in the platform . It takes a special spring. The clutch pedal is easily adjusted. Loosen the bolt (takes a 3/4" wrench) on the side of the pedal and tap the bolt foprward to tighten the free travel. Check the free travel at wide open throttle.

The stock spring has a flat topped upper loop so it fits tight against the floor deck. Deere number R26833.

It may be necessary to remove the cotter key from the clutch shaft and loosen the big nut as well as the small clamp bolt in the slot on the pedal to move the two parts. Be sure to tighten both back after adjusting.
