my 72 4020 just treated himself to a brand new high pressure pump. My back side still feels it. after hauling about 15 round bales it quit lifting. Every thing else works fine. I've read the book, but I was hopeing for an easy fix or to hear from somebody who has had the same problem in order to save a little time. Your turn....

everything works great (steering brakes pto remotes ...except 3pt)pump was rebuilt because the old girl has 11000 hours and seals were leaking. JD dealer is still scratching his head. I"m guessing some dirt in a valve .... but which one?

"everything else works fine"... you mean the steering, hydraulics work but only the 3pt doesn't? That isn't a pump so I hope you didn't already go out and buy one ;) Linkage is broken/screwed up, or you misadjusted something by accident, set up your 3pt as according to your manual and see if that doesn't make it right.

So.... you didnt happen to kick that little short lever next to your right foot did you? Try moving it to a different location and again trying your rockshaft control lever.

HUH ?Treated himself to what? A main hydraulic pump? What was wrong with the old pump? What works fine? The steering? The brakes? The SCVs?

I would be hoping for something simple. I have not the experience for a quality answer but thinking ....at least hoping for air in the line? Do you notice the engine labor / pump kick on when you move the lever to lift? ie pump is called for but pressure not building or is lever moved and no pressure drop puts a call on to engage the pump?

Sorry posted before I got to the jist. Possibly the linkage not traveling or connected and therefore not putting the call into the pump.

4010/4020 hydraulic checklist....

1. No brakes or steering...check main pressure with a gauge, check that the transmission pump is sending fluid to the front pump by pulling the transmission filter and cranking the engine with the shutoff pulled to check for good fluid flow, if good flow startup the tractor and run it up to pto speed ( be ready with a funnel ) and watch for one gallon being pumped in 15 seconds coming from the trans filter housing. If not enough fluid flow, check screen in bottom of transmission, if its like one of my 4010s it will be full of brake material.

2. If you have steering and brakes, but no scv or 3pt, check main pressure with a gauge, priority valve that makes sure you have pressure for the brakes and steering before passing fluid to the rockshaft or scv's could be faulty.

3. If you have steering, brakes, and scv, but no 3pt..check your l/d lever setting on the right front of the rockshaft housing to make it's all the way down for normal 3pt operation. If it its fine, pull the rockshaft valve, and check the linkage, etc, in there.
