I got my hood lifted up today since it had been forward about 1/2" ever since I got it. It never was snug into cowling by instrument panel. My muffler hole is in the right spot but is a cut hole without the rolled edge. The radiator hole is in the right spot the fuel hole seems to be in the right place but the tank is connected to the fill hole with a rubber hose. It is secured on both ends of the hose by perpendicular screw hose clamps. The air stack hole had been cut further to the nose by about 2 inches. It is not a pretty cut.

1) Is there a tool to roll that sheetmetal edge for the muffler?

2) Is the rubber connector hose typical on the fuel tank or did someone cut the fuel neck and add hose so it was flexible to get to the hole?

3) I took off the sidescreens to see if someone had or if it was possible to rotate or move the air cleaner system to get the air in hole to line up with original hole on the hood. Not possible since the assembly is pinch strapped to the fuel tank. So wondering if there is some type of short offset pipe that fits in there.

If all else fails I am going to take the hood to a buddie and have him clean gut that fresh hole. And weld in a patch over old hole area. May be best to weld patch over entire area and cut new hole then do body work.

Another question is how the hood fits near the cab. I have a tab/ bracket on each side that has a hole in it. Cant remember what it is attached to...may be engine. Anyone know if the hood sits on top of these tabs or if there was at one time a secure system that went through the brackets/ tabs and into the hood? I have looked at every picture I could find and operators and IT manual to see how this is supposed to sit on there. The hood tucks under the cowl like it should now and I have a cab so everything stays snug. It appears that the sheetmetal on the hood where these tabs stick out is torn off..not sure as I was doing this under floodlight and flashlights.

Any help here is appreciated as usual.

If the hole edge is not rolled then the hood is a replaceement part. Deere didn't cut the holes in later years so one part would fit all applications, both oval and round mufflers. If you are very careful, take your time and don't take too big of bits you can do a good job of rolling the edge with a small pair of vicegrips. Sounds like the muffler hole was cut too far to the rear.
Used to be back in the early 7os a replacemnt hood was only $90. I replaced a bunch of hoods because it was cheaper than pounding dents and using bondo. My, how things have changed, bob

MSB,

My muffler hole is not too bad...just not a rolled edge. And the hood itself is now in place up against the instrument cowl. The radiator and fuel hole are ok. It is the airstack hole that was a factory hole originaly has been over cut to the nose of the hood. And the way it looks to me is that it had to be cut. The new hole was cut starting in the old hole but almost 2 inches towards the nose. And ther is no way to adjust my aircleaner to meet the hood hole. The radiator would interfere even if I could move everything back. Perplexing a bit.

The hose is standard "factory issue".

"3) I took off the sidescreens to see if someone had or if it was possible to rotate or move the air cleaner system to get the air in hole to line up with original hole on the hood. If you loosen the two bands retaining the fuel tank and air cleaner to the front support, quite a bit of repositioning is possible. I just replaced the fuel tank on a 3020 a couple of months ago, and went through that. I left the bands loose, then installed the hood, then aligned the fuel and air pipes with the holes in the hood before cinching down the band clamps around the tank.

Looks like you have some good muscle on that breaker bar :)

The bands are a tad loose already I can tell that both have dropped a bit from their wear marks. I will give it a try but looks to me like the air cannister will hit radiator long before original hole lines up with air intake stack. Thanks for the pic. Looks like some work for a tank replace.

It's torn down more than needed to replace the tank. We put some new "O" rings in the hydraulic pump at the same time.
