I have a 1969 JD 4020D with factory FWA. Since I owned it, it had spewed oil out of the pressure relief valves. I have SOLVED the problem. No more leakage. They work perfect now, in both high and low torque. Now I can get on with the rest of the restoration. Email me for more information.

John Deere introduced the FWA option in 1969. So it was available from 1969 through 1972 on 3020's, 4020's, 4320's and 4620's. It was available on these tractors with powershift or synro-range transmission. Mine is a synro. transmission. My brother has a 1970 4020D with Powershift transmission. Starting in 1970 JD offered a larger main hydraulic pump (the one under the fuel tank) to help supply the extra oil needed to power the FWA. But this larger pump presented more problems as it was bored out larger internally and the outside dimensions still stayed the same. There were problems with high heat build-up and scoring with the thin walled bores. The 1969 tractors were not equiped with this larger pump.
