Wondering how cool the temp gauge should run in winter. It comes up in temp but not much when running at about 12 degrees F outside temp. That is the coldest I have run it so far. Wondering how cool it will run at 0? What are the options for thermostats on this thing. Obviously want it to run cool in summer as we can hit 100 Degrees here and - 40 in winter.

BTW it has been starting real nice with circulating heater and no either so far.

John

JDPARTS shows 2 - R36846 thermostats, 82°-94°C (180°-202°F) for the diesels.

When using mine in cold weather, I cover the side screens with cardboard to help heat it up a bit.

A single sheet inserted between the radiator and oil cooler works fine- adjust the size according to how much effect you need. No tiedown needed either. Just remember to pull it out next spring.

Thanks for the info Bob. I will try giving the cardboard a shot. I must have the cooler thermo in it. I don't plan to force it to run below zero and don't want to mess with swapping out thermos.

It's hard telling exactly how warm it's actually running. There are probably specs on what temperature each band of the gauge starts at, but it's hard telling how accurate the gauge is. You might consider installing a mechanical gauge that shows actual temperature. And a hotter thermostat may not make it run any warmer. Diesels are made to be worked and worked hard, and they can be a bear to keep warm enough in cold temps.

Sorry for the late post. That is part of the problem. My tractor really gets light use as a loader tractor hauling wood or dirt or rock. Some blading of the driveway. Snowblowing and mowing is about as tough as it gets. Ocasional discing and an even more rare event is plowing with a 3 - 16.
