tried to start my 4010 2months ago after sitting for 2 months. Thought the batteries were dead. When I turned the key it would only click, after a few tries it would give the ratcheting sound. I charged the batteries but got the same results. Took the starter off and had it checked but they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Put it back on and the starter still does the same thing. Is there a way to jump from the batteries to the starter to get it to crank? My guess is if the batteries are good, and the starter is good it should crank. Could I still have a bad connection, bad switch, or something else wrong? Thanks for any help.

Still could be bad battery/batteries. Put a voltmeter or testlight across each battery while attempting to crank. If voltage goes low (or dim test light) suspect the battery/batteries.

Have you checked the neutral start switch? Could be a bad switch of poor connections on the switch. It is located under the cowl and in front of the shift quadrant.

If your batteries are charged and the starter is good, it would have to be the battery cables. Make sure the lugs are clean that contact the battery, and the bolts are clean and tight on the solenoid and starter.
