The problem is how to keep the thrust bearing from going bad (Twice). I have replaced the entire clutch asmy, had all the flywheel work done(checked for wobble and rounout as well), new collar tube, sleave support, fork collar, fingers from the first blowout, split twice, set everthing to factory specs, never pulled with it only mowed hay. All this in the space of 20hrs. When first run smooth as butter then the jetters comeback. Is there something I'm missing or has JD got some bad bearings.

It's been a long road with this clutch problem, but it seems to be fixed! All it took was another clutch ably, bearing and tube. The first new one had the inner spline plate rivited to the wrong side of the disk. The dome of the spline plate would push the bearing rearward so when the PTO was engauged it would be pushing foward on the back side of the release bearing causeing it to rub and overheat the fingers. This was found by hanging under the tractor and looking through the cover plate hole (Closed course with a profesional idiot) Thanks to all Merry Christmas!

Joe, Here is what I would look for. You mentioned that the "tube" was replaced and I am interpreting that you are referring the actuating tube the throw out bearing is attached to. This tube may not be properly seated in the actuating collar at the rear of it making it extend out / forward closer to the clutch fingers resulting into little finger / free travel clearance. The tube has to be seated in the collar square and pressed all the way into it. If not it will extend to far forward and with your new clutch with good finger height could result in to close or to little free travel. To place this tube square in the collar it is / can be difficult. Remove the bottom cover under clutch housing and with a flashlight look up into where the clutch fork actuates the collar and most likely you will see the collar is cocked and tube is not into it all the way up to its shoulder. If you find that this is the case, you know the drill, split tractor remove tube, have second person hold collar square with a couple of screw drivers as the other person bumps it back in place. It may take a couple of times to get it right but it can and must be done. When installed correctly shoulder on tube will be seated up against collar square. Good Luck, DW

Are you setting the freepedal at 3/8 in. min. at 2200rpm? I set them abt. 1 1/2 in with eng stopped. That bearing should run many hours with out grease if its adjusted right. check the new bearing for grease before you install it, you can get it to take grease the normal way, just turn it in the process. make sure the grease notch lines up with the zerk.
