Years ago we pulled 8 shanks, 3" shovels, 8+" deep, 4th gear.

Years ago, I had a 9 shank Krause chisel plow. I had to go down to 7 shanks to get enough depth and speed with my 4020.

We live in SE Missouri and have clay loam soil. It pulls hard...and have a 11 shank chisel, spring trip chisel plow. It will pull it easily with 3" sweeps in almost all conditions with approximately 6-10 depth. Our 4020 diesel pulls it like a dream. It seems to do much better with duals though. Tyler in MO

Good rule of thumb 10 hp per shank with a 3" shovel. Can vary up or down depending on soil composition, depth, flat or hilly land. A 4020 should pull a 7-8 shank with ease in most soils.

Depends on what part of the country you farm in? We pulled a 15-17ft Grahm Home chisel plow with our 4020 out here in big wheat country.
