I have a 4020 I'm selling and was told by a guy looking at the tractor... "you can tell if a tractor is burning oil, by removing the oil cap \ dipstick, when the tractor is running, and placing your hand over the opening. If your had gets oil on it... the tractor is burning oil." Any truth to this? Does it prove anything?

The tractor runs great and doesn"t seem to burn much oil to me(maybe a quart every 40-50 hours).

I"d sure like your input!!! Thanks!

If you remove the oil filler cap/dipstick when the engine is running you are going to get oil throwed all over you! Your buyer doesn,t know what he is talking about.

All that realy is checking is blowby and you can look at the crankcase breather pipe and see how much smoke is coming out of it. The worst 4020 I saw had more smoke coming out the breather at idle than out the exaust.
