I have a 4020 (early model). When load control lever is in L or LD, it will lower but does not want to lift the attachment (in this case a 1-pt sub-soiler). Is this correct? Or has the operator missed something?

seems like you have 'reverse flex' of the load control shaft: on normal operation in the 'l' ranges, when your implment 'feels' more resistance in the ground, the system will raise it. when you lift, lhe load on the load control shaft is reversed, and if its movement is not blocked, it will actually tend to LOWER the hitch- hence the 'not lifting.
first thing to do is to make a full adjustment of the hitch and check again. if problem continues, probably the reverse flex stop pin at the bottom of the transmission case is broken.
replacing it is a big job that requires removal of differential. on later models there was an external stop on the rear cross member of the drawbar support that 'leaned' on the transmission housing, maybe you can copy this to your tractor. you can also 'live with it' by working in 'd' range and changing only with the implment down.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED TO ADJUST THE CABLE AND THEN THE LOAD SENSEING SCREW INSIDE AND THRU THE REAR.
ALSO MAYBE THE HYD PRESSURE.DON

Thanks for the info guys. It looks as if the cable has come out of the clamp at rear. Don't know if this will fix it (along with making adjustments) but I am going to give it a try as soon as my water pump is repaired.

If not, I will live with it until other repairs are needed inside.
