I have a Ford 4000 w/SOS, live PTO and no loader. I've got a bid for $3780 on an Allied 72" loader (completely installed) Is this a good buy? Also, should I look for a used loader instead? I've had very poor luck trying to find a used loader and I'm concerned about what I'd end up with.

What should I do - buy new or continue search for a used loader? One contact told me that I probably wouldn't like the performace a used bucket on that 4000. Is that true?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The price for a new loader here in Tex is about $500-$750 more than they have quoted for you there.
I have tried used loaders in the past and have not been satisfied with them at all.
I have put on used loaders myself and by the time I got it all repaired and rebushed and lined out, the price would be very near the original installed new price.
You might already know this, but if you don't.
I always put water in the rear tires no matter if the tractor wheels have weights on it or not. The 4000 sized tractor is very dangerous if it does'nt have both back feet held down good.

Burrhead,

Wow, under a $1000? That seems way too low for a new loader. Is that just the bucket? My quote was for the Allied 395 with a 6' snow bucket, all the undercarriage and hydrolics. I'm starting from scratch.

If you know of a place to call about loaders that are that inexpensive, would you list it please.

Thanks for the input.

You need to re-read the message. The guy stated that you could buy a "new" loader for $500-$750 "MORE" than you were quoted for a used loader.

I think what Burr meant was the price you have been quoted is that much LOWER than what a similar unit would go for where he's at..:-)

Yep what I meant is that they cost that much more here. I wish I could find um around here at the price they quoted you.
The best loader we've had lately is a Westendorf it's made way up yonder somewhere. I don't remember, but I think maybe Iowa or Nebraska. It was'nt too bad on the price for around here, and it's built pretty good. It has replaceable wear bushings and real grease fittings in all the pivots. Built outta heavier steel than these Bushhog loaders. Bushhog is what they push on you around here and they are built too light for what we're doing.
