Anyone have an idea how to move a disk down a trail without tearing up the grass the is growing on it?

I move my old pull type disk by using a boom pole off the 3-point and some chains. I can raise/lower/ect. Works great.

Tack weld on old axle on the top of it then flip it over and tow it. I guess it depends on how large it is, but I've seen a lot of old disc with axles welded to the top.

Moved one once 7.75 miles with wheels that hooked on the gangs especially made for moving IH discs with old friend of mine had them from one of his old discs. worked well they were metal so did not get in a hurry. Maybe someone else on here have seen them these are the only ones I ever saw. Jim.

could make "ground slide" if you are not going far.

A friend of mine gave me an old disk. I himhawed around for several months about how to move it. Finally I just went and hooked up to it...pulled it straight so there was no angle to the gangs, and pulled it slowly home (~1 mile). Didn't make hardly a mark on pavement or dirt roads. It was noisy on the pavement though!

assuming you are talking about a old pull type disk without wheels. set the disk straight by adjusting levers, hand screws trip rope etc. whatever it takes to get the blades straight, then it will not tear up your trail. have moved them up to 3 miles on paved road, gets noisy and don't do it when road is hot.

Is this an old "drag" type disk? All the ones I am/was familiar with had some way to remove the angle from the gangs, either by pulling a pin, just backing up, etc. This let the blades roll straight without cutting into the soil..... ..

There are two questions.....1 How large is the disc? and 2 How far do you have to move it? You would have to make a decision based on those two facts. Popular ways for moving a disc without damaging the area include taking it apart and moving it, if it's not too large moving it with a skid steer loader, loading it onto a trailer, or you could find a way of mounting transport wheels onto it. I had to move a JOhn Deere JB disc a few miles on paved road the other day so I jacked the disc up, attached an old axle with trailer wheels onto the back gang frame, stabilized the front gang and control arms, and pulled the disc VERY CAREFULLY with my truck.

Pulled a JD disk 6 mi. with angle set straight forward and a set of ear plugs at about 6mph on dirt road. Sold the same disk a few yrs later, took it apart and put it on a trailer and hauled it 15mi. It was 8 ft wide. I share a AC wheel disk with my buudy who lives 12mi away. I hook it on my truck. Use a bolt for a pin and tighten the nut as tight as my 1/2 in ratched will go and pull it 40mph with no problem. Its 10 ft. wide. My .02 cents worth.
