How much HP does it take to pull a 5-shank All Purpose Plow? I have a Deere M model, and was thinking about getting one for food plots on my hunting lease.

That just looks like a newer version of the old Ferguson tiller made for the 9N and kept in the line up thru the 60's. 9 shank was 84" wide and supposed to be able to be pulled with 23 HP tractor, have one and it made a good load for a 65 model 4000 ford with 38" rear wheels and 60 HP, just a lighter weight, smaller type chisel plow, a 5 shank should only be 4' wide and you would have about 1/2 enough power and that JD M does not cary a 3 point hitch, only a 2 point, and the 3 point conversion would not be a type that could handle it, would not have the depth control, you would need gauage wheels

That mfg should have a rating on those as they look new. I bought an older 3pt field cultivator & replaced shovels with 16" ones. Depends what I want to do on how many I use. I tear up quite a bit for food plots with this set-up. If I run 3 16" shovels spaced 16" apart through the CRP grass it creates a grassy tunnel- the turkey poults love it & protects them from the hawks.

That looks a lot like the machine my neighbor pulls with his 30 hp Kubota. As I recall, my grandmother's JD M had around 18 hp. Maybe you could do it, depending on soil conditions. The neighbor uses his mainly in already cultivated soils. Kenneth

A field cultivator would be 3-5hp per shank, while a chisel plow would be 10-25 hp per shank depending how deep you put it.

Sounds like that is some oddball in between? We don't have anything called an all-purpose locally, so hard to say.
