Have an opportunity to purchase a cub cadet 1250 hydro, supposedly a 1979 model. Seems to be in good shape.Does anyone have any experience with them, especially with the Hydrostatic transmission. Any help will be appreciated.

Wayne, Cub Cadets occasionally appear in this forum. Have you also looked at the Unofficial International Cub Cadet Open Forum, Classifieds, and Archives page at>Link
This>Link page also allows you to request a login and password in order to post in the Wanted or For-Sale Classifieds at the site. The Home Page for the Unofficial Cub Cadet website at >Link
also>Link includes several good photos and model specifications-- in particular-- note the table behind the table you see there.

If you post your question in the Forum, you are sure to receive lots of replies.

I greatly enjoyed the discussion archives of the first 1000 messages, and others since. There you will meet Harry who knows a great deal about the Cub Cadets-- and he has a personality-- he makes fun of any CC owner who uses Gear Drive and who lacks Power Steering.

I have a 1963 Cub-Cadet original with gear drive, and my father had a 12 HP model with hydro 1973 to 1985. They are a rugged garden tractor with cast-iron all over. The Kohler engines with the extra large crankpin and bearings-- are among the heaviest-duty I know of compared to other brands of the same Horsepower rating.

This spring, I mechanically reconditioned my 1963 Cub Cadet original to loan to friends who used it all summer to mow their 1-acre yard. I rebuilt the engine (new connecting rod, piston rings, lapped valves, other new internal parts), Installed a New Clutch, Transmission Seals, 38inch mower deck parts, belts, battery, etc.) It has proved its reliability and accomplished everything I planned to do to it.

Some decorative details the collectors prefer are good, others not. For instance, the worshipped "Hood Ornament" Is intact-- but a previous owner painted over some decals in haste. The collectors at the above site have decals available for small fee. The original cast seat is fine. The "Rear Fenders" option that some desire-- is not on my model. The tires appear to be original and are a bit sun-checked as you might expect. I do not have electronic photos-- or any regular photos of it either, come to think of it-- and I do not have a scanner.

Blessings To You. David A. Sohn Saint Louis, Missouri. david.a.sohn@juno.com
