I have a 1959 Kohler K181S 8HP engine with Generator/Starter and I am converting it to a 15 Amp Alternator with electric starter, I purchased a used flywheel with starter ring and and backing plate with a 15 amp alternator which has mounting holes for a regulator. Which Regulator do I need.?

I will have to add a coil and cut a notch in my original blower housing to accept the starter. The old backing plate I removed was a magneto type.

Suggestions needed.

First, what tractor are you putting this in? Some flywheels are model specific. You should be able to use the 15 amp regulator/rectifier PN-41 403 06. You will need a key switch that has a terminal R (for rectifier) and I (for ignition). You can look on E-Bay for a blower housing that came off a alternater style engine cause I don't know for sure if your blower housing fits the starter gear flywheel. I know they are different on the 10-14 hp engines.

I am restoring my Pennsylvania Panzer T75ES and this is the original engine, I am just changing the starter and charging system. I did get the Electric start blower housing with the fly wheel and backing plate. The blower housing is a little rough. Will I be able to use my original starter selonoid?. I also need to know if I can check the 15 amp Alternator to see if it is good with an ohm meter?. what should the reading be.

Yes you can use the solenoid, just hook only the large diameter cable from the solenoid. There is a test for the charging system, it's just someone borrowed my Kohler book and I can't remember off the top of my head how to do it. Something about 22 volts unhooked from the regulator/rectifier and 13 volts hooked to the regulator/rectifier.
