I have acquired a Cub Cadet tractor, manual transmission, complete with mower deck. The tractor runs well, and the mower deck is in excellent condition, however I can't get the power takeoff clutch on the front of the engine to engage.

I want to remove the power takeoff clutch from the front of the engine - a Kohler - but am not sure how to go about it so not to damage the clutch.

Suggestions as to how to remove this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Jack

I'm glad to see someone else found that the t20 torx works on those screws! I'll never use the allen wrenches again.

Just an added note. I have the best luck pouring automatic trans. fluid in the holes and let soak at least overnight. If you happen to have allen wrench slip STOP and use a #20 Torx bit (you'll have to tap it in).I've saved several of these using this method, patience helps alot.

Around the circumference of the clutch are three holes, in each hole are two set screws, one in the hole above the other, SIX screws total. Once all these are removed the PTO should slide off. You might have to drill them out as a last resort. Good Luck!

To add to AW's post, the set screws are Allen head. BE SURE you have a good quality Allen wrench to get them out, so you will not strip them. Never have had to drill one yet, hope I never do!

Also, using Blaster or some other super penetrant is advised. Let it soak awhile beforehand.
