Just recently bought a Cub Cadet 1282 for $350. Of course I asked, "What's wrong with it?" The person who was selling it said that when it gets hot or starts to pull heavy it will start to lag and quit. Once it cools it will run fine. The previous owner had put a new coil in it. To make a long story longer, it does exactly like they said. Mows great for about 45 minutes and then starts to bog down. As soon as I turn off the P.T.O. for the mower it'll run fine so I can get back to the garage. After a half an hour to an hour it's ready for another 45 minutes. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Sticky exhaust valve. Take it apart, clean it up good and relap it. Might as well do the intake too.

BTW, if you inspect the valves and find they have a ridge or ring around the seal area, it is time for new ones. The life has been pounded out of those. And be sure to set the valve lash after you lap them in. Good luck.
