Cub Cadet Engine replacement

Looking at an old model 73 cadet.For a everyday use tractor, is there any reason a person could not use say, a brand new 10 hp single cylinder Tecumseh in place of the old 7hp Kohler unit? ....Thanx....Pete

you can get a replacement motor from cub cadet dealer that will work but it will be 12 hp. there are a lot of good but used motor out there. If you can not find one let me know and I will give you a list of names you can contact.

Pete, If you are looking for more HP, May I suggest upgrading to a 10 or 12 HP Kohler K series. Many old Kohlers are out there in running or re-buildable condition. I frequently rebuild 10s for less then $350 using aftermarket parts. If your looking for a "new" replacement motor make sure it has a cast iron flywheel and cylinder liner. You will have to adapt the drive shaft carrier and front pto. This may be a large project if you don't have access to a machine shop.
