Cub Cadet Throttle Problem

I own a Cub Cadet 1810 with a Kohler engine. Last summer it lost throttle control. The engine would race to wide open regardless of throttle position. I suspect a problem with the governor but am not certain. Would like to hear from anyone who may know what the problem is and how to correct it.
Thanks

That is a common problem for that engine if it has been overheated, the alumium goes out of round and the shaftholding the govener slides out and the gear falls then gets chewed up,engine has to come apart.gov.asemberly replaced, then a hole has to be drilled in the shaft and pinned to hold it in or weld it in .I put a new clip in and pricked punched it and it still didn,t hold.look near the oil fill and you should see the shaft slid out.info is kohler directly
