I am trying to replace the steel pin at the drive hub. Dealer sells two types of pins; roll or solid steel.
The roll pin sheared off in the hub. So I attempted to install the solid type. Dealer tells me he installs them by pounding it in with the hub supported by a hydraulic jack. So far I have only driven it 1/3 the length. Anyone know if this is the correct way to do this?

The correct pin is a hardened solid steel pin. The hub the drive plate bolts to is just an alum. casting.... don't beat on anything to hard because you'll break that hub! Support the shaft or if the broken piece won't come out remove the 4 bolts holding the engine in, pull the center frame cover and disconnect the whole driveshaft at the rag joint and put in in a vice. The correct pin should be very tight in the hole in the driveshaft. If it's not, the drive pin may come up missing! and leave you stopped dead in the yard.

Thanks for the information. I will be careful! The pin, hub and shaft are new. The old hub slot was worn away on one side. The driveshaft was the same way, so I decided to replace both.
My neighbor has a 1450, and has not replaced anything on the driveline, except the fan (since new). He plows snow and dirt with it. I noticed the 1450 uses a rag joint front and rear. Does anyone know if the 149 could be converted?
