I have a 1971 Model 73 Cub that I'm restoring which has had some chopping done to the wiring harness. A previous owner has taken the Magnetic switch out and disconnected the Neutral Safety switch. I don't want to reinstall a Magnetic switch if I can get by it. I've wired everything up according to the diagrams in the manual, but when I hook the positive and negative wires to the battery, it starts to turn the motor over. Can anyone tell me how to rewire this and bypass the Magnetic switch? Any help is greatly appreciated!

1). You can't be "restoring" a CC 73 if yer trying to get rid of parts that were on it from the factory. Yer only "chopping" it more.

2.) You can't have a starting system without the magnetic switch. It is what shifts the high-amp load from the battery to the starter.

3.) I'll send you a 122 wiring diagram via email. It is the same as yer 73 except yer 73 has an ammeter circuit you won't find on the 122 diagram.

Take the time to do it right, Ed, or it'll only wind up costing you more money. Make up yer own complete wiring harness if you can't afford to buy a new replacement from a dealer or a sponsor at www.ihcubcadet.com.

I also want to add that the problem you are experiencing is a sign a set of points in the regulator is stuck together. Fix the wiring like it was engineered to be done, and then fix the regulator. You may be shooting high amps through there and welding the points togther.
