As noted in my original message the serial# as I see it on the Original, is 33997 which makes it a "62". The 71's serial# is 161437 which makes it a "66". I could be wrong on all counts. These 2 machines are at my local dealer. He says the Original is a pull start, it does however, have an ignition key and what appears to be a push button to start it. It also has a battery. I do believe he is mistaken. Maybe the starter is missing??? The 71 does have a little lever in front of the gear shift, so it might possibly have the creeper gear. I will be purchasing BOTH machines and an additional deck w/blades. Also any other old stuff he has (he'scleaning house) for $500!!!! Let me know what you think!!!
THANKS!!!

If the original is a pullstart, just the recoil and magnet assembly is worth a good price. Many times the originals came out this way, and were later equipped with the optional starter/generator. Sounds like quite a find!

That's certainly what I would call a "find"! The 71 with rear lift, fenders, and creeper could easily be worth the $500 all by itself.

The Original (and the 71) should both have a starter/generator hanging of the right side of the engine. You want another Original? I'll sell ya mine for $200 and it DOES have and oil bath aircleaner and a working starter/generator. The starter generator, btw, can command as much as $100 by itself.

Snag all the NOS stuff you can on the way out the door... some of what you get could be marketed and put a big dent in the cost of purchasing your new toys! I'm jealous! Gadget
