I am told by a diesel mechanic that my problem with my 801 Diesel is the restrictor in pump. It is some part on fuel pump related with the return fuel line. Mechanic would not give any advice on how to fix.
Any one know what I am talking about and how to replace this. Was told it only takes about five minutes to fix. I have no idea where to start.
Problem: Tractor cranks runs about five minutes and slowly dies. Cranks righ back up.
I have been through the tank, gas cap, fuel line, fuel filter and so on troubleshooting. None of them is the problem.
Thanks in advance for help.

How far from north central Kansas are you? I'd work on the dang thing for a hundred dollars and the cost of any parts.

The local pump shop wanted $500 up front before he'd look at it, he said he had a closet full of pumps people never paid for. Another shop in another town wanted between $600-800 depending on what they find. I traded a car for this old tractor and I couldn't afford that kind of money. I tried some of the Stanadyne fuel treatment and it seemed to help. My issue seems to be raw fuel at an idle and it idles rough. I did rebuild engine, the rings bearings and head job, but still kinda runs rough when cold. If you do find a pump shop that's reasonalbly price write back to the forum I would like to get this pump worked on also. bjr

Only do it yourself if you know what you're doing. Kits are available for around 30 dollars from any diesel shop that handles Stanadyne pumps.

Where is the governor damper ring located so I can replace it if that is the problem.
Thanks for the info.

Either fuel flow TO the injection pump is retricted, OR the fuel return TO the tank FROM the injection pump is restricted, most likely by a piece of the governor damper ring that has disintegrated into "coffee grounds", and plugged the housing pressure control valve/fitting that is screwed into the injection pump's cover.
You can remove the fitting, and clean out the crud (caution, there's a GLASS check ball in there), and it will run 'til it clogs again, if that's the problem.

The fitting/check valve in question is part Key #4 in this illustration. (Courtesy of Deere, but similar to your's.)

CAUTION... continuing to run the tractor for many hours without having the IP repaired will make governor parts run "metal-to-metal", once the ring completely disintegrates, allowing the metal parts to rattle together, and put metal filings in the fuel system.

Key # 16, in the drawing below, is the plastic ring that fails over time and disintegrates.

Is this a do it yourself repair or must it be done proffessionally? If DIY, where do you get a rebuild parts kit?
