TEA or TED? Also V.O. engine specs needed.

Q1: I have just purchased my first vintage tractor, which was sold to me as a yearmodel -52 TE 20. I have now checked the ID number, which is 106 238, against available yermodel tables, and the apparatus seems to be manufactured in -49 (the older, the better..). But the confusing bit is, that the ID plate states TEA even though it has the Standard V.O. engine (two "gas" tanks, heat shield over intake/exhaust manifold etc.), which would make it a TED acoording to the tables. I'm 99% sure, that the engine has not been swapped (although everything is possible). Has anyone else encountered this same hassle?

Q2: What will be the result, if I constantly use petrol in the engine instead of paraffin (V.O.)? Paraffin has not been available in Finland for many years. What are the engine spec differences of the Standard petrol and paraffin engines, and could the paraffin engine be easily converted to petrol? I think they must have atleast different carbs and the compression must be lower in the paraffin engine, but how is that achieved (by altering the piston height or modifying the combustion chamber displacement etc.)?

Best wishes: Janne Riikonen

Janne, When the TED was first introduced it gave farmers a much cheaper to run tractor than the TEA. TVO is a lot cheaper than petrol. Consequently, a lot of farmers converted their TEA's to run on TVO. Ferguson marketed a conversion kit for this purpose. I believe you have a TEA which has been converted in this way.
Hope this helps,
Peter.

I can't answer question 1 but also find the TEA ID plate interesting. I have a '51 TEF diesel with a TEA ID plate and I'm fairly sure the engine and steering housing with the plate are original. I asked the question on this board a while ago and came to the conclusion it was a factory stamping error given the quantities of tractors being produced.

Kind regards

Check this out for a home made V O recipe.
Link
Check the Farmall archives. This is discussed in the past.
They don't call the fuel VO though. Generally refered to as kerosene or #1 deisel or fuel oil.
On duel fuel Farmalls many just burn gasoline. Some time they install a gas manifold which is cooler.Good luck
