Does anyone know the specifications for the TED20 when running under Vapourising Oil.

1) Does the tractor have more/less power than compared with high octane lead fuels?
2) Is the consumption better than petrol ?
2) Where do I buy vaporising oil ?
3) Is it worth running in vapourising oil mode ?

Many thanks,
Leslie

The 80mm bore engine running on Petrol produced 23.9hp..I dont have an official figure for an 80mm TVO engine but I think it was about 22hp. An 85mm engine on TVO depending on which cylinder head was fitted (different compression ratio's)the early ones produced 23.9hp and the later ones (after engine S170174) produced 25.4hp.

1) Its about the same - don't bother putting high octane fuels in - they won't help much.

2) About the same - maybe slightly better as paraffin has a higher calorific value than petrol I think and I have found I can throttle back a touch on TVO

3) You can buy it from fuel mixing agents, or make it yourself - roughly speaking it is paraffin (or 28 second kerosene), plus a dash of petrol to aid spark ignition, plus a dollop of two stroke oil for upper cylinder lubrication eg. 3 gallons paraffin, 1/2 gallon of petrol, 250ml oil - others have other recipes - look on www.fofh.co.uk for more recipes.

4) Yes, unless you have a deep pocket. Running on TVO it is as cheap to run as a TEF.

I did more investigation and found that I can buy paraffin from a Shell depot close to me and that if I use your formula the product will cost 30% less than normal petrol.

Also I investigated the energy content in the fuels and found that power kerosene is about 37.5 MJ/l and petrol about 34.2 MJ/l. That means that the energy content is about 8.8% more powerful than the normal petrol.

In short 30% cheaper and about 8.8% more powerful.

However, I wonder if the TED engine runs more efficiently on the power kerosene than on petrol ?

Do you know ?

It looks to me like you're about 55% ahead of the game with the TVO. It's hard to imagine the TED efficiency being enough worse on TVO than petrol, to cancel that.
Another way to look at it would be to compare the price of kerosene vs. petrol when the tractor was produced. That was the justification for producing the TED in the first place so if the difference is similar to now, there's your answer.

No I don't know - and short of conducting a full test on a test bed combined with a calibrated fuel consumption figure I don't know how you'd check.

Be happy running on paraffin.
