I have a M Farmall with lambert disc brakes and I want to replace them with band brakes due to the expense of the disc .Is this possible and if so what parts will I need to do this conversion?

I have an MD with those disc brakes. The local clutch and brake shop relined the discs for me for $22 each. That's $88 total and the brakes work great. I bet you can't convert back to the band brakes for that. Keep the disc brakes! It makes your M something special. If you decide to change them out, send me an E-mail, because I need the cone shaped spring that is on the inside of the brake. One of mine is missing. The brake still works, but that brake feels different than the one with the spring. It must be there for a reason.

I just received a new old stock set of Lambert brakes for a H from Weber's Tractor Works (aka Justin). They were still in the original wooden shipping crate. The linings are riveted on the splined rotor. The linings look similar to an antique Harley Davidson clutch lining.

I have two suggestions. (1) Investigate the possibility of having someone who restores H-D's reline your Lamberts. (2) Go to www.hemmings.com and look through their services offered section. I am sure you will find several people or businesses that can help you out.

I wanted the early disc brakes because they are unusual. They will go on my '40 H that is equipped with many IH and aftermarket accessories. If I had a M, I would be interested in your brakes. Perhaps one of the members of this forum will make you an offer.

There isn't much that distinguishes one M from another. I think that you should fix and keep your brakes. E-mail me if you have any questions.

Yes Justin, it was a very satisfactory purchase. It will be interesting to see if they work better than the later IH Super Series equivalents.

I don't know about that.. basically an identical design.. if you use the tractor much, you will probably have to clean them as often as the later disc brakes..
