I saw a post on here that the serial number is also put on the right frame rail on M's. Is this true of any other models? I never noticed it. So if this is true there are three spots where there is a serial number. I take it it would match the one on the bell. Any info would be app. thanx

I have S/N 854 and it has big numbers on side rail, no tag on bell housing but has holes for one.

The serial number on the frame rail was only there on the '39s and maybe a few very early '40s. If the serial number is on the frame rail, there will NOT be a serial number tag on the clutch housing.

sorry rusty but only a very few '39 m's didn't have serial number tags. i have #691 and it has the holes in the clutch housing for the tag. a friend has #517 and it's clutch housing does not have the rivet holes for the tag. the big numbers stamped on the frame rails went into the thousands.
