Hi, does any one know if the key in the rear wheels clamps can be removed from the notch? The rear clamp key (pin) sheered completely level with the inside contour of the clamp (wedge?).I have tried to heat what is still in the clamp with a torch, but I did not want to over heat it. I have also tried a little chiseling but I have not seemed to get under the key.

Any experiences with this?

thanks,
dave

Your new clamp will come with a Key cast right into it, it's all one piece. Look to see if the groove is sloppy where the clamps tighten down on it or is it the same the full length of the axle. Are the bolts that tighten the clamps good and do they tighten the clamps or just get hard to turn because of dirt of rust. I'd chase those threads in any case. Not sure of the torque spec on those bolts but I would tighten them as tight as I could (with a cheater) Dave.

There is no separate key. The key is part of the clamp. If you sheared the key off, you are going to have to find a replacement clamp.

thanks for your answer. I already have one on the way. I was hoping if there is a key i could have it ready as a back up. I have broken three now on the same axle. There may be too much play in the groove of the axle shaft. thanks dave

Make sure the clamp is tight. Clean the threads. Use an antiseize compound on the treads as a lubricant. Tighten the bolts evenly so that all four have equal tension. Something is going on if you have broken three of these??

It has always broken under torque, pushing with the loader. This last time the same, I was filling sand in to a hole, the bucket had sand in it, the front wheels were at the edge of the pile and as I was pushing to dump (actually more pushing than lifting) the bucket over the back of the pile, ( a very small pile) and then the key of the clamp snapped (sheered) and the axle turned freely.

I will make sure I tighten then evenly. I even wondered the same thing this morning.
thanks,
dave
