The power takeoff on my M will jump out of gear for no reason. I does not happen every time but I have noticed it more when I turn a corner and while the PTO is on. Anyone have a possible explaination for this?

Mine was doing that last year. I ended up pulling the shaft out and removing the detent, cleaning and freeing it up. Seems to have worked so far.

That sounds reasonable. I never knew there was a detent. I can feel it go into gear but don't feel a detent of any sort while shifting.

There is a is a plug on the side of the housing with slot head. Behind this a spring and a short piece of shaft with a rounded head. This is the detent that holds it in gear.

After cleaning mine up it has worked flawlessly.

Bill ---

Could it be a differnt shaft you havent used much? Puts a bind on the tractor shaft....has anything else changed.?....Disconect the PTO lever and carefully engage and use it that way to check it.....
